80’S TUESDAY: Steppin’ Out by Joe Jackson - I may have mentioned this before, but my father only had a few cassettes in the car which ending up being the foundation for my early rock music education. One was a mix compilation of the latest hits which included happened to include Joe Jackson.
This tune is pretty much burned into my skull. It is so New York at night with the hustle and buzz of the city. Steppin’ Out was a massive hit, his biggest since “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” a few years prior. I remember hearing this everywhere, in the car, on the radio, on the street. I had gotten so sick of hearing it, yet I began to love it again so many years later.
